OUT-of-contract Carlton utility Jeremy Laidler is focusing all his efforts on winning over coach Michael Malthouse after being re-made as a forward.
One of the selection mysteries of the Blues' campaign under Malthouse has been the decision to continually overlook the 189cm Laidler.
The 23-year-old was one of the club's most reliable and important defenders under former coach Brett Ratten before a run of knee injuries sidelined him for the bulk of last year.
The 26-gamer has made only one senior appearance this year on his return from injury.
In a surprise role switch, Laidler has played mainly forward in the Northern Blues' VFL side and consistently been among the team's best players.

While Laidler would attract the interest of rivals, it is understood he is committed to reclaiming his senior spot at Carlton.
Clubs such as St Kilda, Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast are all seeking to bolster their defence.
"He's certainly been a wonderful player for us,'' Northern Blues general manager Garry O'Sullivan said.
"He's been very consistent. I'm not sure of his averages, but he has been kicking goals each week.
"Obviously, he has added that string to his bow playing forward, so once he gets the call-up to Carlton he won't be pigeon-holed as a defender.
"He can play high half-forward, or roaming around the forward line, so that's great for his development.
"When he's ready to go, they will probably look at him in different spots. But as far as we are concerned, we have got no complaints.''
Laidler played 19 games in 2011, including two finals. He averaged 16 possessions and six marks that year.
